The Golden Westerners is a group of RVers located loosely around Dubbo but members come from Alstonville in northern NSW to Darraweit Guim in Victoria and from Menai in Sydney in the east to Cobar in the west. Our branch has 40 units with one retired member and we have mostly caravans with a few campervans in our group. Our first muster was at Molong in 2008 and we still have some members from that initial meeting.
Musters are generally filled with many interesting outings to local and historical points of interest and lunches at local cafes, pubs and clubs. We are a very sociable group who enjoy happy hour at 4.30pm around a campfire on most days of our musters, often after a game of Klopp. We have a good mixture of stays at caravan parks, showgrounds and free camps and generally have between 12 and twenty units in attendance. Members are encouraged to attend as many musters as possible and to participate in organised activities; however, nothing is compulsory. We have at least one rest day where members are free to do their own thing which might include sightseeing, reading a book, shopping, going for a walk, golfing or doing whatever floats your boat.
We generally have 4 musters a year which are open to all ACC members and any visitors who may be interested in joining the ACC. Our musters are usually for seven days though each year we try to include a tag-a-long which may last two weeks. We travel throughout NSW and to other states, mainly on the east coast; however, one muster in 2023 involved a tag-a-long which lasted for 28 weeks, travelling from Canberra to Tasmania, back to Trangie in NSW then through the Macdonald Ranges to The Alice. Next we headed to Port Lincoln and to Ceduna followed by Broken Hill, Cameron Corner and finally back to Trangie.
At our November muster all members are invited to participate in the AGM when we discuss the proposed musters for the following year. Members are also invited to suggest places of interest for future musters and get involved in the organisation.
We have a very good mix of experienced travellers and beginners and are regularly joined by new units to our branch. We are also fortunate to have a number of very experienced motor mechanics and electricians who are always willing to assist friends in trouble.
